8 Things Yoga Taught Me About Life By William Henderson From The Thought Catalog

8 Things Yoga Taught Me About Life Dec. 26, 2011 By William Henderson

1. Be prepared to sweat. Hard work should make you sweat. Nothing worth having is going to come easy.

2. Go with the flow. Take your time. Don’t judge your own worth by comparing it to the person next to you. Life is a practice, not a competition. There is no winning, no losing. All you have to do is show up and try.

3. Practice as often as you can. The more you practice, the better you get — not that getting better should be your goal. There are no goals in yoga. Just breathe, be, and pretend not to stare at your reflection. You might stare at your reflection, but in time, you’ll stop seeing your flaws and you’ll see instead what isn’t flawed. The way your body bends and responds to a teacher, who will never command, just suggest.

4. If you brush against someone practicing next to you, realize you each have chosen to spend this hour together, in this space, in this way. Get to know the people practicing next to you. Say hi. Smile.

5. Do what you can at your own pace. Getting hurt is not the goal. Testing yourself can be the goal, but only if you’re ready to listen to your body. Don’t stand on your head if you’re not ready to take a fall.

6. And when you’re on your head, remember that you’re in the only position that puts your heart over your head. Love over logic. Who couldn’t benefit from leaping without looking and listening more often to your heart? Don’t talk yourself out of trying; be prepared to not get it right. Notice that you’re not prepared to fail. You’re prepared to do it wrong until you can do it right.

7. Underwear is optional.

 8. Don’t forget to breathe.

Happy New Year

Happy new year!
Make a conscious decision to be happy. Happiness is not a destination (SO cliche), it is a daily choice and journey you live.
How to be happy: reaffirm your own awesomeness everyday! And be grateful for everything you have and don't have every day.
Watch this video to know how you will be successful, this lil girl has got the idea down pat.
I wanna be like her!

Stocking Stuffer Idea

I have a serious case of christmas fever that has dawned upon me in FULL SWING.
I love giving personalized stuff as gifts
As soon as my exams are done I will be making a lot of gifts (which i will only spend a day on before I move on to bigger things like studying for my DAT) and I will hopefully be posting them up here.
Also I will post a few ideas on what to give as christmas/birthday/engagement/kids ...the whole works

Here is something I made a while ago but its TOTALLY cute and super affordable and would make a great stocking stuffer. You make tons of these for all your friends

Door Hanger
Materials you will need
1. Wooden door hanger - you can find at AC Moore or Michaels for ~ $0.99- 1.99
2. Acrylic paint - Some bottles are on sale at your local crafts store $0.99-4.99.
I used one with a metallic finish in Red.
3. Paintbrushes
4. All purpose glue
5. Ribbon
6. Glitter paint
7. Rhinestones of different sizes ~ $3.00-5.00 Depending how many are in the packet you buy
8. Finishing spray. I used a high gloss one.
Optional: Black paint pen

How to
1. Paint with two coats with base color. I used a metallic red. I used sponge brushes
2. Once dry, use a thin paintbrush to outline the door hanger with glitter paint
3. Using a paint pen (I did not), or a steady hand, write the person's name vertically along the door hanger. Feel free to use a stencil and pencil prior to the paint pen to avoid a big mess.
In essence of time I sort of just winged it and drew free hand. I used black acrylic paint and a thin paint brush
4. Place the rhinestone and use wood glue or an all purpose glue. Randomly lay the rhinestones in different sizes across the door hanger.
5. Using a thin paintbrush and white paint or a light colored pain, draw zebra print pattern alone the top of the door hanger.
6. Allow to dry over night
7. measure about 12cm of black ribbon and knot around the door hanger. use fabric glue/ a needle and thread to secure the ribbon.
8. Using fabric glue or all purpose glue, place a rhinestone on the ribbon
9. Use finishing spray (USE IT OUTSIDE)

TA-DA ALL DONE & you have a beautiful door hanger.

How to cure a burn

Hopefully you won't ever have to find yourself in this situation, however if you are in this unfortunate predicament here are some home-ish remedies to relieve your burn. Remember, these are simply for 1st degree burns and at-home-remedies. PLEASE go to the doc if your skin is falling off because you dont want secondary infections #OUCH, thankyou!

1. Egg whites
Crack open a couple eggs and remove the yolk saving only the egg whites. Slightly beat the egg white and apply to burn.

2. Calamine lotion
This is one of the essentials you should probably have handy in your medicine cabinet. Fortunately for you, if you do not, then it is available at any grocery/drug store. Other alternative of it work such as caladry and store-name brands

3. Milk.
Place milk in bowl and use cotton or washcloth to apply to burns. You may also soak burn in milk (depending on location of burn)
