How to go shoe shopping

There are a plethora of things in this beautiful universe that you can skimp on in terms of comfort and budget, shoes however are not one of them.

There is a reason that I am more than adequately capable of sprinting a marathon (need be, though i'd prefer not to) in a pair of 5-inch heels...

I have yet to venture into the virtual world of cyber-shopping for footwear. That day does not seem to be in my near future (and I will gladly keep it like that). For all of y'all that have managed to find an awesome pair of shoes online, congratu-frikkin-lations, you no longer need to read the rest of this since you know some sort of shoe shopping secret that I don't. You are brave, or have some champion-feet that can snuggly fit into anything.

The art of finding the perfect shoe all begins with your first step into the store. Do NOT buy a pair of shoes in a rush, remember you need plenty of time to sift through the countless number of aisles. Hasty decisions might result in aching metatarsal (its probs not really but it sure as hell feels like it), blistered pinky-toes and short term plantar fasciitis (pain in the heel and arch of your foot).

1. Before you take your first stride into shoe-land, you seriously NEED to say this to yourself COMFORT COMFORT COMFORT COMFORT COMFORT! you will totally look like an idiot but you won't be walking out of there like the rest of the idiots who were totally mesmerized by the glitz, glam, sparkles yada yada. Comfort is the cardinal rule in terms of shoe shopping. If you find it hard to remember this, set your alarm to buzz 7 minutes into your shoe-spree with a large header that looks something like this COMFORT

2. Remember to stay focused when embarking on this treacherous journey. It is really easy to be led astray. Keep in mind what type of shoe you are looking for and then head straight to that section. If you are there for rain boots, go right over there and do not wander and be distracted. This is the hardest part of the entire game! Once you have chosen your perfect shoe in the specific category you were initially looking for, then go for it doll, wander your life away since your primary mission is accomplished. We all turn slightly ADD in the shoe store.

3. Babe if you are going to be spending more than 1 hour trotting around in some snazzy-lookin footwear, make sure its comfortable. The test I personally use ALL THE TIME to get a real feel for the heel is to run around the shoe store in them. Seriously!!! Wear both the shoes and try running up and down the aisles in them. If you are comfortable then go right ahead and justify your $100+ expenditure. If it's loose, tight, gross, weird, slippery then look for something else.

4. The next thing I always look for- considering I am a walking disaster (I am only second most clutzy compared to my best friend, she steals the award)- is the traction on the shoe. I don't really care if its a pair of sneakers, sperrys, loafers, moccasins, boots, sandals, heels... there needs to be some sort of traction on that bad-boy. By traction I mean, I much prefer a rubbered sole with some sort of fancy patterned crevices carved out. It should be somewhat textured, that smooth lookin sole ain't gonna be your companion for much longer. SO remember, flat-surfaced stuff no way JOSE, girl you are gonna break your ass in those at the club or the snow or somewhere.

I will be blogging my favorite shoes in a future blog. However in light of the sad fact that im blogging from the cozy (totally sarc) retreat of the library i can't really take pics... but stay tuned for that.

The moon

“If the moon smiled, she would resemble you.

You leave the same impression

Of something beautiful, but annihilating.”

Quote of the day

“You need not do anything. Remain sitting at your table and listen. You need not even listen, just wait. You need not even wait, just learn to be quiet, still and solitary. And the world will freely offer itself to you unmasked. It has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.” ~Franz Kafka

Exquisite

“I will love you as we grow older, which has just happened, and has happened again, and happened several days ago, continuously, and then several years before that, and will continue to happen as the spinning hands of every clock and the flipping pages of every calendar mark the passage of time, except for the clocks that people have forgotten to wind and the calendars that people have forgotten to place in a highly visible area. I will love you as we find ourselves farther and farther from one another, where once we were so close that we could slip the curved straw, and the long, slender spoon, between our lips and fingers respectively. I will love you until the chances of us running into one another slip from skim to zero, and until your face is fogged by distant memory, and your memory faced by distant fog, and your fog memorized by a distant face, and your distance distanced by the memorized memory of a foggy fog.” ~The Beatrice Letters by Lemony Snicket
